A home based catering business can be a great way to make more money and become an independent business owner. However, starting a catering business isn't for everyone. How can you know if this is the business for you?
Here's how to tell if catering is the business for you:
You love to cook. Liking it isn't enough, you have to be passionate about it
You're good at cooking. Loving to cook isn't enough. To make your clients happy, you have to be able to cook tasty dishes
You're a diverse cook. Different clients have different tastes. You need to be able to cook different things
You can cook quickly. This isn't a must but it certainly helps. Catering opportunities come quickly and rapidly. People wait until the last minute. Being able to cook something up fast will ensure you make the most of your business
You actually want to start your own business. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being an employee. You need to really want to start your own business
Of course, there's more to managing any business, like knowing how to close deals, advertising, promoting, and being organized. However, all of these things can be learned. But if you don't feel at home in a kitchen, love cooking new things, and simply enjoy the astounded expressions on people's faces when they taste you delicious dishes, than you shouldn't dream of starting your own catering business. However, if you do feel that the 5 points above are true for you, then by all means, you should look into becoming a caterer.
If you do decide to start a catering business, I can only say that I admire your decision and wish you the best of luck.
